Zahi, WHO delegation discuss health justice

A working session was held on Monday between a World Health Organisation (WHO) delegation and Social Affairs Minister Malek Zahi, during which the minister pointed to the importance of achieving health justice as one of the pillars of the social State, laying emphasis on the need to restore the State's social role by pooling the efforts of all stakeholders.

There is need to draw up an action plan to achieve social justice and guarantee a decent life for citizens, the minister was quoted as saying in a Social Affairs Ministry press release.

Zahi underlined, in this regard, the need to reform the social welfare system so as to guarantee everyone access to health and social services and to recover debts owed to public health institutions.

The minister further commended the WHO's support to the department, notably in the achievement of priority programmes and projects, as fight against drug addiction and the integration of people with disabilities.

Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health at the University College London Sir Michael Marmot underscored for his part, the importance of coordination between all sectors so as to implement the joint programmes aimed to achieve short-term health justice.

WHO representative in Tunisia Ibrahim El-Ziq affirmed the organisation's willingness to support joint programmes so as to achieve the sustainable development goals by 2030.
