Workers’ remittances cover 97.7% of accumulated external debt service (BCT)

Accumulated workers' remittances have slightly increased by 4.7%, from 3.4 billion dinars in June 2022 to 3.6 billion dinars today, according to quantitative data published by the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) on Friday. Indeed, remittances from the Tunisian diaspora cover 97.7% of the accumulated external debt service, which has fallen by 9.5% to 3.7 billion dinars by June 20, 2023. Accumulated tourism receipts continued their upward trend, rising by 53% to 2 billion dinars on June 29, compared to 1.3 billion dinars on the same date last year. BCT statistics also showed a significant improvement in the total volume of refinancing, which increased by 49.5% to 15.1 billion dinars on June 23. Total refinancing is a key indicator for central banks. It represents the total amount of liquidity that the central bank provides to commercial banks through its refinancing operations.
