Unemployment drops slightly in Q2 2023

The unemployment rate reached 15.6% in the second quarter of 2023 (Q2), down from 16.1% in the first quarter of the same year and up from 15.3% in the second quarter of 2022, according to the National Statistics Institute (INS). The number of unemployed people decreased slightly in the second quarter of 2023, totalling 638.1 thousand, compared to 655.8 thousand in the previous quarter of the same year. According to the same source, the unemployment rate among people with tertiary education reached 23.7% in Q2 2023, an increase from 23.1% in Q1 of the current year. Furthermore, the unemployment rate for young people aged 15-24 was 38.1% in Q2 2023, down from 40.2% in Q1 of this year and up from 37.2% in Q2 2022.
