UGTT reiterates call for social dialogue to resolve problems of environmental and gardening company and blocked projects in Tataouine

The administrative committee of the Tataouine regional labour union (URT), which met on Thursday, examined a number of important issues, including the environment and gardening company, service companies and projects pending in Tataouine, such as the southern gas project, which has been blocked for more than two years. Sami Tahri, deputy secretary-general of the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT), who chaired the URT administrative committee in Tataouine, reiterated the trade union centre's call for social dialogue to resolve problems and deal with important issues such as the environment and the planting and gardening company, which employs some 2,500 executives and workers. In a statement to TAP, he recalled the agreement signed with the previous government on November 5, 2020 on the regularisation of the professional situation of staff of the Environment, Planting and Gardening Company and the release of a budget to ensure the stability and sustainability of this company. He said his agreement helped to ease tensions in the region, solve a multitude of problems and put an end to the sit-in in El Kamour. "Certain points of the agreement were implemented and then suspended," he pointed out, adding that social dialogue remains the only way to solve problems and guarantee stability in the region. The URT Tataouine Administrative Committee also reviewed the general situation in the country and the UGTT's position on political, economic and social issues, the suspension of dialogue with the government and its impact on social stability, as well as regional issues relating to development and blocked projects in the governorate of Tataouine. The meeting also discussed the difficulties faced by service companies in the region due to delays in the payment of salaries and the lack of resources and equipment.
