Tunisia to host next edition of International Festival for Ideal Mother in 2024

Tunisia, represented by Minister of Family, Women, Children and the Elderly Amel Belhaj Moussa, participated on Wednesday in Luxor, Egypt, in the 7th International Festival for the Ideal Mother, as guest of honour.

After the opening ceremony of the festival, organised by the University of Luxor in partnership with the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Charity, the Mechouar Foundation for Development and the Nazih Group, the organizers announced that Tunisia will host the next edition of this festival in 2024, reads a statement from the Ministry of Family.

The opening ceremony, which took place at the Temple Square of Karnak in Luxor, started with the tunes of the national anthems of Egypt, host country of the festival, Tunisia, guest of honor of this edition and the UAE, official partner of this event, followed by the welcome speech of the festival General Coordinator Salah Al Jaafaroui, adviser to the Mohamed Bin Rashed Al Maktoum Foundation for Charities.

At a conference held on the occasion and attended by Egyptian researchers from 10 participating countries and Tunisian researcher Hajer Khanfir, the Minister for the Family, Women, Children and Seniors reviewed the specificities of the Tunisian experience in terms of family promotion and economic empowerment programmes for women and mothers.

Moussa stressed that Tunisia opted for a comprehensive approach to consolidate the rights and economic empowerment of mothers in a bid to achieve family balance.

She also gave an overview of the Tunisian experience in consolidating women's rights in order to fight against their discrimination thanks to the contributions of women's rights advocates and reformers, adding that the new Tunisian Constitution of the July 25, 2022 guarantees women's rights and enshrines gender equality.

The Minister of Family underlined that the Tunisian State is working to support vulnerable women through economic empowerment programmes dedicated to poor and limited-income families so as to facilitate women's access to the job market.

A tribute was paid, during this festival, to Tunisian candidate Samia Mallouche for her long struggle as the mother of a blind child, pursuing her baccalaureate studies at the Canadian school in Tunis and Souad Ben Hamza, mother of several children without family support at the SOS village in Akouda.
