Three seawater desalination stations to become operational (Ridha Gabouj)

Hammamet: The three seawater desalination stations in Zarat (Gabès), Sfax and Sousse will be operational over the next few days, late in June and at the end of this year respectively, said Secretary of State of Water Resources, Ridha Gabouj. These stations will make it possible to consolidate the water system of Sfax and coastal areas as well as ease pressure on the waters of the north and Greater Tunis, he told TAP on the sidelines of the inauguration of the 20th Mediterranean Animal Production and Livestock Show which is held until May 3, in Hammamet. The seawater desalination station in Zarat, Gabes Governorate, which has a daily production capacity of 50,000 m3, will be operational in the coming few days, he added. Gabouj indicated that the Sfax desalination station (10,000 m3/day) should enter service in June 2024. Regarding the Sousse desalination station, he mentioned that the progress rate of the works has reached 70%, specifying that the station will enter into operation at the end of this year. H ead of the Cabinet of the Agriculture Minister, Abderraouf Ajimi recalled that the national strategy to combat climate change based on the mobilization of surface water will make it possible to ensure drinking water reserves.
