Sousse: Inauguration of the wastewater treatment plant at Chott Meriem Higher Institute of Agronomy

The Higher Agronomic Institute (ISA) in Chott Meriem (Governorate of Sousse) hosted the inauguration ceremony of the wastewater treatment plant on Friday, as a pilot project enabling purified water to be reused for irrigation purposes.

Project coordinator Shama Kfala told TAP that the plant was built in cooperation with the University of Liège in Belgium, with funding of 100,000 euros provided by the Province of Wallonia-Brussels (Belgium), adding that the operation of the plant is based on ecological techniques and natural materials that respect the environment.

With a treatment capacity of 20 m3 of wastewater per day, the plant is capable of irrigating fruit trees and ornamental plants at the institute during an experimental phase.

The inauguration ceremony for the wastewater treatment plant at the Chott Meriem ISA was attended by the Belgian ambassador to Tunisia, François Dumont, a number of executives from the University of Liège and the Belgian province of Wallonia, as well as representatives of the regional authorities in the governorate of Sousse.
