Renowned puppeteer artist Lassaad Mehouachi passes away

Puppeteer artist Lassaad Mehouachi died at dawn on Friday, September 8, the Ministry of Culture announced in a press release. The ministry expressed its deep regret at the loss of an outstanding artist and one of the most respected experts in the field of puppetry in the Arab region. It also highlighted the illustrious artistic journey of the late Mehouachi, who was a pioneering figure in the field of puppetry in Tunisia, which began in 1986. Mehouachi is recognised as the author of major children's theatre works such as 'Cinderella' and 'The Dinosaurs'. His creations have won awards at various national and international events, notably in Malaysia and Egypt. A former member of the National Centre for Puppet Arts, founded in 1993, Mehouachi was one of the puppeteers who contributed significantly to the centre's prominence, much like the late actor Abdelghani Ben Tara, who passed away on 17 March 2023. Ben Tara was the director of the National Centre of Puppet Arts from 1996 to 1997.
