Private Sector Urged to Invest in E-Mobility Infrastructure Dev’t

Addis Ababa: Petroleum and Energy Authority urged the private sector to engage in the infrastructure development of electric vehicles. In a panel discussion the authority held with stakeholders today on issues of infrastructure development for electric vehicles in the country, Petroleum and Energy Authority Director General Seharla Abdulahi stated that Ethiopia has immense potential for infrastructure development of electric vehicles. Ethiopia's potential in renewable energy sources like hydropower, wind, solar and geothermal energies contribute for the infrastructure development of e-mobility system in the country. Stating that the government will encourage investors with e-mobility strategy in the energy sector, the director general called upon the private sector to engage in this promising investment, She also stated that driving electric vehicles will have crucial role in saving foreign currency for importing fuel. Electric vehicles are also of paramount importance in environmental protection throu gh reducing greenhouse gas emissions, she added. Trade and Regional Integration Minister Kassahun Gofe on his part emphasized the need for modernizing and digitizing the energy sector. To this end, the ministry will provide all the necessary support to modernize sector, he said. Climate Change Senior Expert at Ministry of Transport and Logistics, Yizergaw Yitay on his part reiterated the need for the engagement of private sector for the development of infrastructure for electric vehicles, stressing for building climate resilience green economy.
