Bujumbura: Ethiopia's President Taye Atske Selassie has arrived in Bujumbura, Burundi, to attend the 23rd Common Market of Eastern and Southern African Countries (COMESA) Summit, which is expected to commence tomorrow. This summit gathers leaders from member states to discuss important regional issues and strategies. According to Ethiopian News Agency, Ethiopia has actively participated in the 19th Meeting of COMESA Ministers of Foreign Affairs, which was held in Bujumbura earlier this week. The Ethiopian delegation was led by Ambassador Hirut Zemen, who serves as the Permanent Representative of the African Union and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa. The ministerial meeting prioritized discussions on peace and security challenges in the COMESA region, with a particular focus on terrorism and climate change. The COMESA Heads of State and Government Summit, also known as The Authority, serves as a platform where the heads of state or government of the member states convene. The Authority acts as the supreme policy organ of the Common Market, overseeing the general policy, direction, and control of the executive functions to achieve the objectives outlined in the COMESA Treaty.
