President Saied urges removal of corrupt people from public facilities as he visits Bizerte Regional Hospital

President Kais Saied, during his visit on Sunday to the Obstetrics, Infants and Paediatrics Department of the Habib Bougatfa Regional Hospital in Bizerte, said that it is necessary to “celebrate an evacuation day dedicated to cleansing the country in order to remove corrupt people from public facilities.”

In his description of the state of the hospital, as reported in a video released by the Presidency, he added that the effects of corruption in the hospital are “no less than the effects of the bombing on hospitals in Gaza,” stressing that the situation cannot continue with corrupt people working to disrupt the rehabilitation work.

The President of the Republic pointed out that the disruption of the work on the hospital, which is scheduled to be completed in 2020, has led to the waste of the people's money allocated for this purpose.

He stressed the need for the hospital to remain a public institution, subject to the principles of public service.

He said that the country needs a legislative revolution and that it is not possible to continue running the state with laws that the people have revolted against.

The President pointed out that all the projects have been disrupted under the pretext of the existence of a text that is interpreted to serve the lobbies and influential families that run the country.

He stressed that the structural reform planned at the end of the 1980s had affected all public services such as health, transport and education, citing the problems of the hospitals in Bizerte, Sfax, Siliana and Beja, which had turned the sector into a commodity available only to those with money.

For his part, the governor of Bizerte, Samir Abdelaoui, said that he had held several meetings to resolve the problem of the interruption of work on the hospital, pointing out that the state had cancelled the contracts of 4 contractors and was in the process of launching a single tender to complete the work.
