President Saied to Faeser and Darmanin: No to migrants settling on Tunisian soil, no to role of border guard

'Tunisia not accept the settlement of migrants on its soil," President Kais Saïed reiterated, as he received, Monday, German Federal Minister of the Interior, Nancy Faeser, and French Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin at the Palace of Carthage. The Head of State took the opportunity to reaffirm his firm opposition to Tunisia being a 'border guard for any other country," the Presidency said in a press release. President Saied also reiterated his position in favour of "a new approach to the phenomenon of irregular migration that tackles its causes and origins, and not just its effects and repercussions." He called for joint efforts to tackle the rise of this "inhumane" phenomenon. The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the strategic relations of cooperation and partnership between Tunisia and the European Union in various fields and to reaffirm the common will to strengthen them and promote them towards broader horizons, in line with new visions and perceptions.
