President Kais Saied stresses Tunisia’s keenness to further strengthen fruitful cooperation with Egypt

President Kais Saied stressed Tunisia's keenness to further strengthen the sincere relations and fruitful cooperation with Egypt in various fields, as he received Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Tuesday. A statement by the Presidency stressed Tunisia's determination to raise relations between Tunisia and Egypt to the highest level, to diversify them and to overcome any difficulties that may arise for the benefit of the two peoples and their common interests. The meeting was an opportunity to discuss a number of regional and international issues of common interest. For his part, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said that his visit to Tunisia "comes within the framework of the ongoing political consultations between the two countries following the visit of President Kais Saied to Egypt in 2021. This visit was followed by the convening of the meeting of the Tunisian-Egyptian High Joint Commission," according to a video released by the Presidency of the Republic. He went on to say that the common vision of the Tunisian and Egyptian leaderships underpins the will to raise relations to a strategic level, a will based on unity of vision and purpose. Shoukry said that intensified consultations and meetings are needed to face the challenges and achieve comprehensive political, economic and social reforms. He pointed out that the meeting also discussed the measures that can be taken to achieve the common interest, stressing the continuation of the consultations between the two countries. He added that the political dialogue held on Tuesday morning confirmed the existence of a common basis of understanding and political will for joint action to face the existing challenges. It addressed regional challenges and joint actions «that would enhance the ability to face them, especially in turbulent conditions". Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry is visiting Tunisia on the occasion of the fifteenth session of the Political Consultative Committee. He met on Tuesday morning with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Migration and Tunisians Abroad, Nabil Ammar, and discussed the importance of speeding up the implementation of the agreements reached at the meeting of the High Joint Commission held in Tunisia in May 2022.
