PM and Interior Minister discuss security situation in Sfax and Sbeïtla

The security situation in the country, particularly in Sfax and Sbeïtla (Kasserine), took centre stage in a meeting held on Thursday at the Kasbah between Prime Minister Najla Bouden and Interior Minister Kamel Feki, as stated in a brief statement released by the Prime Ministry.

The meeting takes place against the backdrop of clashes that have erupted in recent days between local residents and sub-Saharan migrants in Sfax. On Monday, following the stabbing death of a local resident, three suspects were apprehended, and a judicial investigation was initiated.

In the delegation of Sbeïtla, confrontations broke out between police officers and a group of individuals who, according to the account provided by the Interior Ministry, attacked a security patrol with hunting rifles and stone throwing. One person was fatally shot during the skirmish, while another sustained injuries from shotgun pellets.
