The development of Arab countries hinges on the development of a social contract based on equality, involvement and social justice, and founded on rights and freedoms," said the declaration issued at the end of the colloqium: "The future of joint regional action in the human rights field," held on July 11-12 in Tunis.
The declaration, titled "The Tunis Declaration, Human Rights, Our Future," called for increasing regional networks and inclusive initiatives aimed at protecting human rights and enshrining their principles in culture, policies and legislation.
The declaration also underlined the need to implement strategies to support major issues such as human rights, climate change, migration, the rights of refugees and the rights of people with disabilities.
The document issued at the end of the symposium organised with the support of the Arab Institute for Human Rights, called for further investment in new technologies, artificial intelligence and media to enhance and promote the culture of human rights.
In this document, the participants underscore the need to draw up joint and inclusive programmes aimed at developing the regional and international human rights mechanisms, and to harmonise the discourse on this issue.
In another connection, the declaration calls for devising a joint regional action to ensure lifelong learning and a social contract for education in all countries, and developing scientific research on the achievements of civil society in the human rights field.
