Parliament looks at bill approving loan guarantee agreement signed by Tunisia, AfDB

Tunis: The Assembly of People's Representatives (ARP) Tuesday started looking at a bill approving a guarantee agreement signed by Tunisia and the African Development Bank (AfDB) on January 31, 2024, for a loan to the National Sanitation Board (ONAS). The financial support will serve to fund partly a project to upgrade used and treated water quality. The project fits within efforts to cushion the impact of climate change and attain SDGs by 2030. The project, worth 81.9 million euro (TND 276.14 million dinars), will help improve the services provided by the utility through the renewal of electro-mechanical equipment and the installation of solar photovoltaic panels in 19 stations coming under the ONAS in ten governorates (Nabeul, Zaghouan, Jendouba, Kasserine, Sidi Bouzid, Sfax, Gafsa, Tozeur, Kébili and Médenine). This will help improve living conditions of more than 670,000 citizens. The project will also help produce treated water, in conformity with Tunisian standards, and foster its re-use in agricultur e. This in addition to the creation of nearly 250 direct jobs and 1,000 indirect jobs and the consolidation of ONAS technical and administrative capacities. Source: Agence Tunis Afrique Presse
