Parliament criticises Arab League over its stance on Palestine

The official position of the League of Arab States on the situation in Palestine is "weak", according to a parliamentary motion unanimously approved by 123 members of the Assembly of People's Representatives (ARP) on Tuesday.

"Their position is contrary to the aspirations and expectations of the Arab people, who are unwaveringly committed to the just cause of the Palestinian people and their struggle for self-determination and the recovery of their legitimate rights."

Parliament Speaker Brahim Bouderbala read the motion at the end of a plenary session, reiterating Tunisia's "principled" and "consistent" support for the just Palestinian cause.

The motion urged Tunisian diplomacy to play a leading role in supporting the Palestinian people on the Arab and international fronts.

The MPs expressed their pride in the 'heroic epic' of the Palestinian resistance in the face of the Zionist war machine.

They also stressed their commitment to the legitimate right of the Palestinian people to resist the Zionist occupation and the historical legitimacy of their right to liberate their land.

They categorically rejected the logic of "half-hearted justice" and the West's policy of double standards.

The MPs also criticised the international "silence" in the face of the genocide and war crimes committed by the Zionist enemy in the occupied territories.

They called on people around the world to support the just Palestinian cause and to put pressure on their governments to assume their responsibilities to lift the siege imposed on Gaza and to end the policy of forcible displacement of Palestinians.

The motion reiterated the intention to ratify a law that incriminates all forms of normalisation with the Zionist enemy.

Before reading the motion, the parliament speaker recalled the history of the Jews in Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria and Libya who fled the Nazi forces and denounced the "blatant complicity" of the West in the face of the terrible massacres of infants, the elderly, women and youth in Palestine.
