Olive harvest estimated at 14,000 tonnes in Siliana

The olive harvest in the governorate of Siliana for this season is estimated at 14 thousand tonnes of olives (compared with 28 thousand tonnes in 2022), the equivalent of 4 thousand tonnes of olive oil. Head of the Regional Authority for Agricultural Development in Siliana Moncef Hermi explained the low profitability of the sector by the lack of rainfall, despite the fact that the region counts 8 million olive trees spread over an area of more than 80,000 hectares. He pointed out that margines, used as pesticides for olive trees, would be applied to an area of 150 ha, taking care not to pollute the environment. The olive harvest in the region will start on November 1, 2023.
