Number of beneficiaries of economic empowerment programme for low-income families up to 3,000

Minister of Family, Women, Children and the Elderly Amel Belhaj Moussa said Monday that 517 Tunisian families from 16 governorates have benefited from income sources to fund projects.

These projects are under the programme of economic empowerment of low-income families, involving the sectors of agriculture, trade and handicrafts, with a 3-million-dinar (MD) budget.

The Minister was speaking in the margins of a ceremony held in Tunis on the International Day of the Family, observed on May 15 each year.

The number of beneficiaries of the programme has reached 3,000 across all governorates, after distributing sources of income to 517 families, she added. "up to 70% of the recipients are women, while 30% are men of 35 to 55 years of age."

The Minister expressed her wish to see the number of beneficiary families increase to one thousand in 2023, recalling that the budget earmarked to the economic empowerment programme for families in the finance law surged from TND 2.5 million in 2022 to TND 4.5 million in 2023.
