New measures to boost Saharan tourism reviewed

A series of organisational and financial measures destined to promote the development of Saharan and oasis tourism were discussed during a working session held, Tuesday, at the Tourism Ministry chaired by the Tourism Minister Mohamed Moez Belhassine.

In a statement released by the Tourism Ministry, these measures focus on creating two destination management structures (OGD) associating the private sector and the public sector, the first dealing with Saharan tourism and the second with oasis tourism,

The measures also focus on reviewing the legal framework to facilitate the creation of projects in oases located in public or private irrigated areas with limited reception capacity, while encouraging the creation of specific projects within the framework of the creation of citizen companies governed by Decree No. 15 of the year 2022.

According to the ministry, the working session is part of the follow-up to the ministerial working session on Saharan and oasis tourism held on July 6, 2023 and field visits made to the governorates of Tozeur, Kebili and Tataouine early in September 2023.
