MPs unanimously underscore urgent need for law criminalising normalisation with Zionist entity

MPs, meeting on Monday in an extraordinary plenary session devoted to the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian territories, unanimously underscored the urgent need to pass a law criminalising normalisation with the Zionist entity.

They also proposed offering their own financial aid to the Palestinian cause in addition to political and moral support.

Some MPs proposed setting up a parliamentary committee to follow up the decisions of the President of the Republic regarding support for the Palestinian cause.

Other proposals included the introduction of an action plan for the Tunisian media aimed at countering the disinformation spread by the foreign media and lifting the veil on the atrocities perpetrated by the Zionist war machine.

Some deputies suggested broadcasting educational programmes for children to teach them about the Palestinian cause and the history of Palestine.

These programmes would be broadcast, for example, on the occasion of Land Day and the commemoration of the Nakba.

Speaker of the Assembly of People's Representatives (ARP) Brahim Bouderbala praised all the international personalities who have openly condemned the Zionist crimes.

"We commend the protests staged by the Jewish community in New York in reaction to the aggression on Gaza (...) We also praise the Jewish personalities who have spoken out and taken up honourable positions," he said.

"We make a clear distinction between Zionism and Judaism (...) we respect Jews who defend the universal values advocated by all peoples," Bouderbela pointed out.

In the same vein, the parliament speaker called for the condemnation of the French position banning pro-Palestinian protests, voicing wish that all countries that believe in justice and humanitarian values should adopt conscientious positions towards the just Palestinian cause.

The deputies emphasised that Tunisia's position had been honourable from the outset, underlining the need to put pressure on governments that have opted for normalisation at Arab and international level to get them to rethink their conception of the Palestinian right, deeming it a matter of urgency to enact a law criminalising normalisation.

The goal is to ensure that any act of normalisation with the Zionist entity is criminalised politically, popularly and legally.

They proposed boycotting Israeli products and those from "imperialist countries" as an act of resistance.
