Movement of unemployed PhD students stage sit-in in Tunis

The movement of unemployed Tunisian doctoral students staged a sit-in in front of the Tunis Municipal Theatre on Saturday to protest against "the government's delay in responding to their demands and its lack of responsiveness to the recruitment of unemployed doctoral students". The movement is demanding the implementation of legislative measures to regularise the situation of unemployed doctoral students, coordinator Meriem Dziri told TAP. Dziri explained that the Unemployed PhD Students' Movement decided to stage this sit-in to appeal to the President of the Republic to intervene and bring justice to the unemployed PhD students. The protesters demanded a radical change in the recruitment system in higher education institutions, opting for a new formula of fair and transparent competitions, the separation of higher education and research, the digitalisation of competitions and the establishment of a legal mechanism for financing training and research projects.
