MMR drops to 8.01% in April 2023 (BCT)

The average Money Market Rate (MMR) dropped to 8.01% in April 2023, against 8.05% in March and 8.02% in February 2023, according to data published by the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT). The MMR had stood at 6.26% in April 2022, and 6.25% in April 2021. It has remained at high levels in recent months due to successive increases in the BCT's key rate, in a bid to address rising inflation aimed at addressing the upward trend in inflation in 2023. The Executive Board of the BCT had decided at its meeting on March 22, 2023 to keep the key rate unchanged at 8%. However, it stressed that it will remain "attentive to future inflation developments and will be ready to take the necessary measures to bring inflation back to sustainable levels."
