Ministry of Justice submits request to parliament to lift MP Sami Ben Abdelaali’s immunity

The Justice Ministry submitted a request to the Assembly of People's Representatives last June 2 to lift the immunity of MP Sami Abdelaali (the constituency of Italy). This follows a complaint lodged against him by the Tunisian Consulate in Palermo, said Chair of the Committee on Rules of Procedures Mohamed Ahmed. Abdelaali is being prosecuted by the Tunisian consulate in Palermo on suspicion of misappropriation of public funds, Mohamed Ahmed told TAP. Abelaali, who holds the post of assessor of the the Speaker in charge of relations with the Presidency of the Republic and the Prime Ministry, attended Monday the meeting of the Committee on Rules of Procedure, Ahmed added. The Committee convened a meeting on June 16 to allow the MP to provide supporting documentation; a plenary session will be held subsequently to consider the Justice Ministry's request.
