Addis Ababa: Members of CorpsAfrica, volunteers from Rwanda, Kenya, and Mali, highlighted the importance of tree planting as a solution to the climate change crisis. Since early morning today, millions of Ethiopians from across the nation turned out to break their own record by planting 600 million seedlings from dawn to dusk. Members of the CorpsAfrica joined millions of Ethiopians in East Shoa, Oromia region, for a massive tree planting event. Liliane Radukunda of Rwanda emphasized the global importance of planting trees to prevent soil erosion and mitigate climate change. Planting trees is crucial for sustainability and can protect communities vulnerable to climate impacts like floods and erosion, she said. In Rwanda, there is a slogan if we cut down a tree, we should plant two or three to replace it. Edith Nyawira from Kenya on her part said, "As CorpsAfrica, we are participating in a tree planting event today." It's a beautiful day because we are contributing to environmental conservation and prot ecting our soil. Expressing her feelings, she said that it's a great day because we have planted 1,000 trees; I'm feeling happy. As Corps Africa, we encourage the community come together, because we have something called community based project. Some of my colleagues from CorpsAfrica are here to help the community plant trees, she said. She added that in Kenya, we plan to plant 1 billion saplings each year, and it's great to gain this experience from Ethiopia. She explained that everyone in Africa is working towards the same goal-planting trees to address the current climate crises we are facing globally. 'If we don't continue to plant trees and keep cutting them down, it will have serious consequences." she said. We don't want future generations to face environmental gaps, she said adding the best thing we can do is plant as many trees as possible every day. Tiyamike Memory Makulin from Mali expressed her excitement, saying, "I am really thrilled to be here, working with the community to plant trees. As part of CorpsAfrica, one of our initiatives is CorpsAfrica Green. We strongly believe in taking care of the environment by planting saplings. We believe that planting trees helps protect the environment from soil erosion and floods, addressing issues that have become increasingly prevalent worldwide. Additionally, we are confident that through tree planting, we can keep the air fresh by reducing carbon dioxide and other pollutants that harm the environment. Source: Ethiopian News Agency
