Malaysia’s Prime Minister Applauds Ethiopia’s Phenomenal Growth Over the Years

Addis Ababa: Ethiopia has seen remarkable growth and achievements over the years, elevating the country's importance as a key partner in Africa, Malaysia's Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim commended. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed concluded his two-day official working visit to Malaysia. Ethiopia has undertaken significant economic reforms to open up the economy, including the liberalization of the telecom sector, opening up of the financial sector, the liberalization of trade and the logistics sector for foreign investors. Over the past six years, various sectors and sub-sectors have been opened up for domestic and foreign investment to make Ethiopia a business friendly nation alongside implementing plenty of legal and administrative reforms during the stated period. In a joint press conference with Ethiopia's Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Malaysia's Premier emphasized Ethiopia's role in promoting African unity and cooperation and expressed his country's keen interest in learning from Ethiopia's experien ces and sharing its own knowledge and expertise, the Malaysian National News Agency (BERNAMA) said. He highlighted some of the commendable advancements of Ethiopia, including its economy, governance, anti-corruption initiatives, and airlines. PM Abiy on his part emphasized the longstanding diplomatic ties between Ethiopia and Malaysia, which span more than half a century, need to be strengthened through visits of this kind. He added Ethiopia and Malaysia agreed to deepen collaboration across several key areas including agriculture, industry, mining, trade and investment. Prime Minister Abiy stated that there are plenty of opportunities for collaboration on both sides. "I encourage Malaysian businesses to seize the opportunities in Ethiopia, which is a rapidly growing economy. There are many prospects available," he said, adding that his government is committed to supporting the private sector from Malaysia. He emphasized that the discussions were very fruitful in enhancing cooperation across all sectors . Both Premiers held a private meeting to discuss bilateral relations and exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest. PM Abiy noted that the private sector, tourism and government-to-government relationships will bolster bilateral ties. On another note, Abiy expressed Ethiopia's interest in learning from Malaysia about modernizing cities and building infrastructure. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has also extended an invitation to Malaysian investors to capitalize on Ethiopia's burgeoning economy while holding productive discussions with his Malaysian counterpart, Anwar Ibrahim. Both leaders reaffirmed the strong bilateral ties between the two nations and explored avenues to further strengthen cooperation in areas such as agriculture, industry, mining, trade, and investment. Ethiopia's rapid economic growth and favorable investment climate present significant opportunities for Malaysian businesses. Prime Minister Abiy also emphasized the Ethiopian government's commitment to provid ing necessary support to Malaysian investors and facilitating their entry into the Ethiopian market.
