Mahdia: Number of overnight stays up 58% compared with last season

The number of overnight stays in hotels in the governorate of Mahdia during the period from January 1, 2023, to June 10 reached 1,924,430, recording an uplift of 58% compared with the same period last season.

According to statistics from the Mahdia Regional Tourist Board, German nationals accounted for 28% of visitors to the region's hotels, followed by Tunisians at around 20%.

Tourists of French nationality accounted for around 14%, while British and Russian nationalities represented 8% of total overnight stays, followed by Polish tourists with 5%, and 19% of overnight stays divided between various other nationalities.

During the same period, Mahdia's hotel units hosted 47041 guests, a jump of 11% compared to the same period last year.

The occupancy rate reached 25.7% (an improvement of around 33.5%), while the average length of stay rose to 4.1 days, a leap of around 42% compared with the same period of the previous tourist season.

The governorate of Mahdia has 29 hotel units providing around 4,000 direct jobs, in addition to the economic dynamism generated indirectly by tourism in the region.
