JAP-Hammamet 2023 – women’s wrestling: “road to gold was hard and I’m happy to have taken part in Tunisia’s edition” (Bea Meiring)”

South African champion Pia Mering, who won the silver medal in wrestling (-70 kg), underlined that she was happy to seize the opportunity to represent her country and take part in the 2nd African Beach Games held in the resort city of Hammamet from June 23 to 30.

Speaking to TAP, she commended the high-level organization of the continental competition.

Pia spoke of the challenges she faced during the competition particularly in the golden square, where she faced Tunisian wrestler Khadija Al-Jelassi, who was a strong candidate to win the gold medal.

She reiterated that her victory over Tunisian wrestler Khadija Al-Jelassi, 3-0, was very tough, and it is the victory that officially guaranteed her the nomination for the World Beach Games to be held in Bali, Indonesia, next August.
