ISIE President announces 12% of candidates for upcoming local elections are women

President of the Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE) Farouk Bouasker revealed on Monday that 12% of the candidates for the upcoming local elections are women. During his visit to the headquarters of the Independent Local Authority for Elections (IRIE) in Zaghouan, Bouasker disclosed that the number of candidates for the local elections, scheduled for December 24, had surpassed 7,400 candidates as of Sunday. These involve 1,040 candidates with disabilities, he told reporters, noting that 22% of the candidates are under the age of 35. Bouasker affirmed that candidates represent all 2,084 localities from various governorates in the country, with the exception of the Galite locality in Bizerte and Borj El Khadra locality in Tataouine, due to the absence of population in these two territorial sectors. The ISIE president clarified that the elected councils will be promptly established following the announcement of the final election results. They will commence their activities in accordance with Law No. 87/1994 dated July 26, 1994, pertaining to the creation of local development councils, pending the publication of the amended version of the local government code.
