Illegal migration takes centre stage as FM meets with Guinean minister of planning in Kampala

The situation of Guinean migrants in Tunisia, illegal migration and prospects of cooperation were at the centre of a talk which Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad Nabil Ammar and Guinea's Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Rose Pola Pricemou had in Kampala, Uganda. The two ministers met on the sidelines of the 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement and the G-77 plus China Third South Summit 2024 (January 21-22). The meeting was an opportunity to hold a frank and positive dialogue which helped overcome misunderstandings on the situation of Guinean nationals in Tunisia, the ministry said in a press release. Tunisia takes pride in its African identity and lives up to its commitment towards the continent, the FM said. Legal migrants from Guinea are welcome in Tunisia. Tunisia prefers to solve issues, if any, through direct dialogue, cooperation and mutual trust so as to avoid smear campaigns and untruths aimed to undermine relations between the two countroes and thei r common interests. Tunisia's approach to cooperation with Guinea and other countries rests on the respect of the sovereignty of each country and non-interference in its internal affairs and choices. Rose Pola Pricemou hailed the Foreign Minister for his frankness and said a number of isolated incidents are not to be taken into consideration. The Guinean minister also laid emphasis on the importance of intensifying cooperation, particularly in education and technical training, and called for increasing the quota of scholarships granted to Guinean students and training sessions for technicians and engineers. The Guinean official also voiced appreciation for the presence of Tunisian institutions in Guinea. A diplomatic mission in Conakry and direct channels of communication will foster a mutually beneficial partnership. .
