I Watch urges Court of Auditors to make up for delay in publishing its reports

The organisation I Watch has called on the Court of Auditors to make up for the delay in publishing its reports so that citizens can find out where their public money has been spent and how their public enterprises are managed. In a statement entitled "Court of Auditors: two years of blackout", published Monday, the organisation called on the authorities to fill the vacancy in the presidency of this court and to appoint a first president in order to "ensure the smooth running and continuity of the supreme authority of financial justice". The organisation pointed out that since the publication of its last annual report, which covered its control acts during the judicial year 2018-2019, the court has refrained from publishing its work and acts for 2020 and 2021. This is not the first time that the court has refrained from publishing its annual report in a timely manner, as the court had not published reports covering the years 2013, 2015, 2019 and 2020. The organisation said by adopting a blackout approach and refusing to publish its annual reports on a regular basis, the Court of Auditors is committing a flagrant violation of the fundamental principles of the International Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI), in particular the respect of deadlines for the publication of audit and control reports, one of the pillars of public accountability and transparency. I Watch also said the Court's 32nd report, submitted to the President of the Republic on February 4, 2021, was the last to be published before July 25, 2021, and stressed the importance of the Court's 33rd report (not yet published).
