Tunis: A human trafficking network of eight Tunisians, including five women and a migrant smuggler, has been uncovered following a joint operation by the intelligence units of the National Guard in Jebeniana, Sfax and the central intelligence services. This network is involved in human trafficking and financing illegal border crossings by sub-Saharan Africans, the Directorate General of the National Guard said in a statement on Monday. Members of this network provided irregular migrants with financial sums of approximately 230,000 dinars through postal money orders. They helped them to secure illegal residence in the delegations of El Amra and Jebeniana in the governorate of Sfax. Field operations, including raids and searches, resulted in the seizure of approximately 65,000 dinars, a luxury vehicle and a collection of contracts for assets acquired "for money laundering purposes," according to the same source. All those arrested were referred to the Sfax prosecutor's office, which ordered the issuance of eight detention warrants for "human trafficking and money laundering", reads the statement.
