The issue of migration and links between Tunisia and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) were the focus of a telephone conversation on Wednesday between President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed, and President of the European Council, Charles Michel. During the meeting, the Head of State reaffirmed his position on so-called "irregular" migration, calling for a collective approach to tackle the causes of this phenomenon. He reminded his interlocutor of his proposal to hold an international congress bringing together countries affected by irregular migration. In the same context, President Saïed stressed that Tunisia "can only guard its own borders", asserting that there are human trafficking networks in countries on both sides of the Mediterranean involved in this phenomenon. In the same vein, Kaïs Saïed insisted that "Tunisia refuses to be a place of transit or settlement for migrants". The Head of State also clarified his position regarding the solutions proposed by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), noting that diktats are unacceptable, especially as their application, as was the case in 1984, threatens social peace. The telephone conversation with the President of the European Council also provided an opportunity to emphasise the need for cooperation in the field of renewable energies. In this context, Saïed stressed that Tunisia has enormous opportunities for projects, given its favourable climate for the production of alternative and renewable energies.
