Burt’s Bees has been synonymous with lip care since 1991, when Roxanne Quimby made a lip balm based on a recipe she found in a 19th century farmer’s journal. Seven years beforehand Quimby met US beekeeper Burt Shavitz while hitching a ride from him in Maine. They partnered in making candles from unused beeswax, and the bearded and free spirited Shavitz became the namesake of Burt’s Bees.
