During a field visit, made, Tuesday, by Secretary of State for water Resources, Ridha Gabouj, to the seawater desalination station in the region of Zarat in Gabès, he insisted on finishing the works of the station's final phase as soon as possible. The seawater desalination station project in Zarat, which will benefit nearly 1.1 million inhabitants, is part of the strategic program of the National Water Exploitation and Distribution Company (SONEDE).It aims at improving and securing water resources in Tunisia's southeast until 2035. The project will help meet additional water demands and improve its quality in the Southeast governorates as well as avoid the shortage of water resources recorded in recent years, especially during peak summer periods. The daily production capacity of the Zarat seawater desalination plant is estimated at 50,000 cubic meters (m3) which can be expanded to 100,000 m3. Source: Agence Tunis Afrique Presse
