The number of tourists in the governorate of Gabès since the beginning of 2023 has reached 14,444 visitors, up 56% compared to last year, according to a meeting of the regional tourism council held on Wednesday at the headquarters of the governorate.
Statistics from the regional tourism office in Gabès show that the number of overnight stays in hotels and hostels in the region since the start of the current year has risen to 21,300.
The work of the regional tourism council focused on the means to be implemented to ensure the success of the tourist season, notably through greater efforts to keep the environment clean and to secure the region's hotel units and beaches.
The session also stressed the need to push ahead with major investments in the region's tourism sector, in particular the El Hamma thermal spa and the integrated ecotourism zone in southern Gabès, as well as promoting services in tourist units and enhancing the region's tangible and intangible heritage.
