FM calls for immediate cessation of aggression on Gaza in telephone calls with European counterparts

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, Nabil Ammar, in telephone calls with a number of his European counterparts on Sunday, called on all active international forces, especially the European Union, to assume their political and moral responsibility and impose an immediate halt to the brutal and inhuman aggression on the Gaza Strip.

He also urged, according to a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry on Sunday afternoon, to stop the policy of systematic killing of innocent children and infants and to prevent any attempt to expel the Palestinian people from their land, and to speed up the delivery of urgent and emergency aid, pointing to the seriousness of the continuation of the situation as it is.

The Foreign Minister's telephone contacts with his European counterparts, fall within the framework of Tunisia's efforts to put an end to the ongoing blatant aggression on the Gaza Strip.

They included the Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani; the Portuguese Minister of Foreign Affairs, João Gomes Cravinho; the Belgian Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs, Foreign Trade and Federal Cultural Institutions, Hadja Lahbib; the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of the Kingdom of Spain, José Manuel Albares; and the British Minister of State for the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia, Tariq Ahmad.

During these contacts, Nabil Ammar stressed the atrocity of the ongoing aggression against innocent and defenceless Palestinian civilians in Gaza, carried out by the occupying forces in full view of the world and in flagrant violation of the most basic rules of humanitarian law and human rights values.

He also stressed the need for everyone to draw lessons from recent and distant history, which confirms that ”the policy of continued occupation and mistreatment of peoples cannot continue indefinitely, as it will only lead to a further escalation of the spiral of violence and the spread of chaos and instability.”

Nabil Ammar stressed the importance of everyone recognising the need to restore the rights of the Palestinian people, which have been enshrined in many resolutions of international legitimacy for decades.
