Entrance exam to pilot middle schools kicks off nationwide

The number of pupils sitting the entrance exam to pilot middle schools (6th grade) dropped by 485 in 2023 to 56,893, against 57,378 last year.

Candidates account for 28% of the total number of 6th graders (200,400), Education Ministry data show.

As such, 143,507 pupils (72% of 6th graders) chose to not sit this exam.

Fifty-seven candidates will benefit from special measures this year, including extra time and enlarged font.

The results will be announced on July 7.

The seating capacity of pilot middle schools was set at 3,700 places across the country.
