Addis Ababa: Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh called on the private sector to play a pivotal role in overcoming challenges and building a better Ethiopia. Temesgen made the call addressing the conclusion of the trade fair week and 4th national public-private sector joint consultation forum today at the Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration. Regional Chief Administrators, Ministers and members of the business community were in attendance at the event. Members of the business community who participated in the event appreciated the government's support to the private sector but also raised concerns about issues like contraband, peace and security, finance, and infrastructure. Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh on the occasion called on the private sector to play a pivotal role in overcoming challenges and building a better Ethiopia. The private sector played crucial role during the implementation of the country's first Home Grown Economic Reform, he said. Temesgen pointed out that the privat e sector has significantly contributed to large-scale projects that were challenging for the government's capacity including the corridor development, Dine for Nation, charities and others. The deputy prime minister also underscored the need for a stronger private sector to ensure the success of the second Home Grown Economic Reform. He mentioned about the government's efforts to enhance finance access for manufacturers, and the business community at large with a view to maintaining macroeconomic stability in the country. Noting that the government's role in enhancing the investment and business environment is limited, Temesgen stressed that the primary task lies in addressing obstacles to creating an efficient, competitive, and high-quality business sector. To increase productivity and competitiveness, the deputy prime minister called for greater private sector participation in agriculture, manufacturing, and mining sectors. Moreover, Temesgen emphasized the importance of the private sector in strengthe ning the government's capacity and delivering quality services. The deputy prime minister said that just as the government works to strengthen the capacity of the private sector, the private sector should check its focus on strengthening itself. Building a better Ethiopia requires overcoming challenges, and Temesgen emphasized the private sector's responsibility in this regard. Furthermore, he called on the private sector to work honestly, pay tax, prioritize national interest, and adhere to the law. Recognizing the critical role of peace in achieving national economic goals, the deputy prime minister reiterated the government's commitment to building reliable peace and encouraged the private sector to play its part.
