Cuba’s Deputy FM Confident in Ethiopia’s Potential to Make Substantial Contributions in BRICS

Addis Ababa: Cuba's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Elio E. Rodriguez Perdomo, expressed confidence in Ethiopia's potential to make substantial contributions to BRICS' work. In an exclusive interview with the Ethiopian News Agency, Perdomo anticipates positive contributions from Ethiopia. "I understand and I know that Ethiopia will do an additional contribution to the different works being carried out in the BRICS," he said. Perdomo also expressed enthusiasm regarding Ethiopia's new membership in BRICS and highlighted Cuba's expectations for its long-time friend in this influential group. Deputy Minister Rodriguez Perdomo congratulated Ethiopia on becoming a new member of BRICS, emphasizing the country's importance as both a regional and international actor. "Ethiopia is an important actor, not only regionally, but also internationally, and I am sure that it will have great contributions within this group," he stated. The Cuban diplomat underscored the significance of BRICS for Cuba, noting excellen t relationships with all founding members and new additions like Ethiopia. He pointed out shared challenges and interests among BRICS nations, particularly as part of the global South. Rodriguez Perdomo expressed confidence in Ethiopia's potential to make substantial contributions in this regard. The deputy minister also highlighted the importance of Ethiopia's membership for Cuba, stating, "For us, it's excellent to have a new friend within this group, which is Ethiopia." He emphasized Cuba's intention to continue coordinating positions on multilateral relationships and foreign policy with BRICS members, including Ethiopia. The Deputy FM revealed that during the recent BRICS summit in South Africa, Cuban President had a successful meeting with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. According to him, both leaders agreed to strengthen bilateral relations and support Ethiopia's work within BRICS. As Ethiopia takes its place among the BRICS nations, Cuba looks forward to a strengthened partnership and incre ased cooperation in various international forums, reflecting the evolving dynamics of global diplomacy and South-South collaboration.
