Cooperation and partnership relations between Social Affairs Ministry and ILO, reviewed

Social Affairs Minister Kamel Madouri on Wednesday received International Labour Organisation (ILO) Director-General Gilbert Houngbou at a meeting at the Ministry's headquarters. Cooperation and partnership relations between the ministry and ILO were reviewed during the meeting, along with ways to scale them up in joint action fields, notably the Decent Work Country Support Programme (DWCP). Madouri pointed out the need for more balanced and responsible social dialogue in order to achieve decent and sustainable work, commending the role of the ILO in this regard. He further underlined the need to invest in social protection, to enhance workers' fundamental rights, provide decent working conditions and devise integrated public policies based on the approach of economic empowerment of vulnerable groups and laying the foundations for a just transition. He explained that the far-reaching economic and technological transformations are posing challenges to the future of work in the world, which requires redoubl ing efforts to invest in decent work and labour institutions. Gilbert Hongbou, for his part, affirmed ILO's willingness to further bolster cooperation and partnership by stepping up programmes aimed at improving social protection, decent work, industrial relations and social dialogue, and by supporting Tunisia in the implementation of all relevant reforms.
