Bodies of 9 undocumented foreign migrants recovered, 41 rescued

The bodies of 9 undocumented migrants of different foreign nationalities have been recovered on Thursday off the coasts of Jedaria in Zarzis, while 41 others have been rescued, the National Guard Directorate said in a statement Thursday. The National Guard had carried out a search and rescue operation on Thursday, approximately 4 miles off the coast of Jedaria. The migrants were brought to the commercial port of Zarzis in the presence of public health authorities for further examination of the survivors. The migrants had embarked from the shores of a neighbouring country, the National Guard said in a previous statement. Coordination was made with the navy and civil defence, and fast boats were dispatched to transport 5 bodies and one surviving migrant in a critical situation to the local hospital.
