Bizerte drawbridge to be lifted around midnight to allow testing under load

The Bizerte drawbridge will be temporarily raised around midnight on Thursday night until dawn, Friday, to allow it to be tested under load after technical interventions and repairs to the structure have been completed, said governor of Bizerte, Samir Abdellaoui.

To this end, the Bizerte Committee for Natural Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Relief has announced that the bridge will be closed to traffic, calling on road users and residents to respond positively to these measures and to exercise caution.

In an earlier statement, Abdellaoui said the bridge's electric lift had been successfully restored on Thursday and that the temporary opening of the bridge would allow all ships moored at the Bizerte commercial port to leave, pending the implementation of a completely new system for operating the bridge.

As a reminder, a fire had broken out in the engine room of the Bizerte drawbridge, on Wednesday, July 26, prompting the authorities to close the bridge and ban traffic.
