260 infants diagnosed with bronchiolitis admitted to the ICUs from October 2023 to date (Riadh Daghfous)

Some 260 infants diagnosed with bronchiolitis have been admitted to intensive care units from October 2023 to date, said director general of the National Centre for Pharmacovigilance, Riadh Daghfous. An average of 60 to 70 hospitalisations for bronchiolitis have been recorded each month in that same period, he told TAP, noting that 80% of patients are under 3 months old. Bronchiolitis peaked last December and has maintained the same pace without significantly decreasing, leading to overcrowding in intensive care units and hospitals, Daghfous said. He pointed out that influenza is the most common disease in young children in Tunisia, followed by bronchiolitis, seasonal flu and then COVID-19. Source: Agence Tunis Afrique Presse
